Summary:

John 1

There is much that is conveyed in this chapter about the nature of God, Jesus Christ, the Trinity, John the baptizer, and the disciples. The book starts with introducing this seemingly person the "Word" and continues to attribute many things to the "Word". The "Word' is eternal. The "Word" is God. The "Word" made everything. The "Word" gives life and is light. Who ever believes in the "Word" becomes a child of God. There have been many characteristics of the "Word" that makes you wonder who this "Word" is and wanting to know the "Word. Then John beginnings to really help us make the connection with the fact that the "Word" is Jesus Christ. John writes that the "Word" became flesh and is full of grace and truth. The "Word" and "Light" is Jesus Christ and all the attributes are that of Jesus Christ. John the baptizer comes into the narrative and is the one whom is to proclaiming the coming of Jesus Christ and point people to Him. He witnesses to people that Jesus is the Messiah who is to save the people from their sins. Right after Jesus gets baptized he goes and calls His disciples. Notice how Jesus calls his disciples not the other way around. He seeks them out and desires to teach them. They have heard Him preach and want to follow Him, but Jesus is the one seeking them out. Jesus also in calling Nathanael illustrates His omnisciences in the fact that He knew Him before they had ever met.
