Summary:
John 2
Three days after calling His disciples they go to a wedding where Jesus performs one of His first miracles of many during His public ministry. During the wedding probably towards the ending of it Jesus' mother comes to Him and brings up the fact that there is no more wine for the guests. Right away Jesus speaks to His death by referring to "My hour has not yet come", which might seem kind of perplexing. This statement gives great insight to the whole purpose of the miracle and how we can see what Jesus was trying to convey to His disciples, the guests at the wedding and us. Jesus has them get six stone water jars that are used for purification and they were fairly large jars. He has them draw from it and take some to the master of the feast who then drinks of it and states that this the best wine that he has tasted during the whole wedding. Jesus illustrates to us that everything that is proceeding before His death is nothing as great as what His death is going to accomplish for mankind. Jesus death purifies and redeems in His death. Jesus is foreshadowing His death in the midst of this miracle and revealing that what is going to happen in His death is the apex of history. After the wedding Jesus and His disciples went to the temple during Passover. Jesus is filled with righteous anger at what was taking place in the temple and clears all the people selling items of sacrifice out. He then speaks prophecy about His death and resurrection by making reference to the destruction of the temple but is actually referring about His own body. And lastly in the chapter we learn about how Jesus knows the heart of man and how is very dishonest due to them only believing due to His signs.
