Devotions: John 5

Read John Chapter 5

Questions of Implications:

1. Why does Jesus tell the man to take up his bed and walk? What does Jesus mean in v. 14?

2. What power has been given to Jesus?

3. Where do you find truth? What do the Scriptures say about Jesus?

Points of Application:

- How does the healing power of Jesus to this man relate to you spiritually?
- Reread those sections of the chapter v. 19-29, 30-47. How important is Jesus Christ to you?
- Whose will do you seek to do? And Why?

Summary:

John 5

Jesus went up to a pool in Jerusalem where many people that are sick, lame, and in need of healing go lay by the pool. When the pool is stirred then people get in and get healed. Jesus approaches this man that is near the pool and asks him whether he wants to be healed. The man begins to tell Jesus how he has no one to put him in the pool when it is stirred. Jesus then tells him to pick up his mat and walk. At once the man is healed and begins to walk while the Pharisees are furious because he healed the man on the Sabbath. After this happened the Jews wanted to kill Jesus because He called to be an equal to God. The second half of the chapter is Jesus talking about how He is here to do the Father's will. Those that want to know the Father must know the Son who Jesus is claiming to be. Those that desire eternal life must believe in the Son whom was sent by the Father and give the Son honor. The Son is the glory on earth of the Father and that we must worship the Son. Where we find the truth about the Son and the Father is in the Scriptures, which tells about how to gain eternal life. This has been the gospel that Moses preached and now Jesus is preaching.
